We are who we are and we're changing

Sorry it's been a while... I tried to post a video about how I'm feeling about consumerism, capitalism, and my place in that world, but alas my computer ineptitude made me fail at getting it onto the blog. So yeah these pictures are kinda old it was a weird day where I felt like dressing "girlie" so yeah this is girlie to me lol.

Wearing from top to bottom:
Headband- DIY
Necklace- The Parker Shoppes
White Undershirt- Dumpster- That's right someone threw away that amazing collar!
Black Tee- Gift
Pants- Thrift Store
Bracelets/Rings- Thrift Stores, The Parker Shoppes, Charming Charles, and Urban Exchange
Shoes- Thrift Store

Lately I have just been really, I don't even know how to even put it into words, just unsure of my choices I guess. I have been reading this book called "Radical Homemakers" by Shannon Hayes, it's a great book I highly recommend it. The book is about how as Americans our homes use to be sources of production and how through the industrial revolution our homes have now become the heart of consumption. First men left the home to work, then the women followed, all to work for someone else to get paper that we deemed to have value. We take that paper and we trade it for our big houses, for lots of new things to fill our houses with, and for our nice clothes to wear to our jobs. We spend so much time working for these things that we then are so exhausted that we have to spend more money on convenience, on fast food so we don't have to cook, and on cars so we don't have to walk. But for what, does that really make us happy? Is this new "American Dream" really realistic for the future of our planet? I don't think so. The book also focuses on individuals and families who cast aside the pressures of a consumer culture to live in a world where money losses its power to relationships, independent thought, and creativity. I think, I very much want to live in that kind of a world. But that very desire makes me question a lot of things about my life, including my strange obsession with buying lots and lots of vintage clothing, and my online store. My mind is full of questions and I have very little answers for myself. I keep thinking of this song by Merit called Static & Satellites, the chores talks about how "we are who we are and we're changing". That's exactly how I feel right now I am who I am but I'm changing. What am I changing into is yet to be determand, but I am excited to find out.

Here's a video of that song enjoy the singers silly ramblings for the first min. of the video...

Two Year Anniversary an Excuse to Dress Like a Golden Pineapple

I can't believe that two years ago today Ben and I were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple! Time has gone by so fast! Obviously in Kelsey Land this is not an occasion for a little black dress; oh no it is an occasion to wear SHINY GOLD STIRRUP LEGGINGS with a DENIM PINEAPPLE SHIRT!!!!!!!! Sorry about all the caps and exclamation marks, but I am so happy that both of these garments exist and that I am wearing them! So here is how I dresses like a golden pineapple, plus a few old wedding shots.

Wearing:
Everything Thrifted except hat is from Big Lots and Earrings are from The Parker Shoppes

So about the last photo..... There was a bee! That is pretty much my "Oh no there is a bee" face! I was attacked by a beehive when I was four or five and I never really got over it. Needless to say our photo shoot got cut short due to the bees. But I just couldn't resist posting this outfit anyway.

That's my hubby Ben, he's pretty great. He has work today but tomorrow were celebrating and watching the new Batman movie which I am stoked to see!

Love and Peace,

Kelsey

New Beginnings, Remembering the Past, and Moving Forward

Here we go again.

Take two.

Hi guys! I'm back! This time I'm ready to jump into the whole blog thing instead of just sticking my toe in the pool. No more erratic posting and lackluster posts with some pictures of outfits and the occasional rantings of a crazy lady with her strange Communist, Feminist, Freeganist, Environmentalist ideals. Yes there will still be pictures of my outfits, and hopefully a lot more rantings, but I also want to share my life with you.

Whether I'm talking to the 11 people that followed my old blog ( When to Wear ), or if my blog one day gets "successful" and has a lot of followers, or if I am just communing with the vast emptiness of the internet I want to have an open and honest space here where I can just express myself and share my life regardless of who is or is not reading.

So for all of those that followed or commented on my old blog, thank you. For all those who may read, comment, or follow my new blog, welcome, I'm Kelsey, or Kels, or Crazy Old Lady whatever works. First and foremost I guess this is a fashion blog. Although I believe that through fashion we can, if we choose to, express our inner selves. Our fashion choices can open up doors of discussion about a wide verity of current issues from the media's impact on our ideas of beauty, and how this effects womens' self esteem, to where our clothes come from and the impact that our clothing purchases have on our planet.

So for my first post I thought I would review some looks from my past blog. I think my personal style has really developed over the past few months. Overall I would say that my style is just a love off all things vintage and ridiculous with a predisposition for dressing like a dirty, grungy, homeless, hippie. Who knows, I could wake up tomorrow with a whole new vibe and decide to dress differently.

To see more pictures of any of the outfits, or to see where the stuff I'm wearing is from, ( most of it is thrifted, vintage, from my old store, from my new store, and a few Tunnel Vision pieces) you can see them all over on my old blog

Also if you haven't already, check out the lovely Madeline wearing a vest from my brand new etsy shop! Just want to say that she is the nicest blogger I have ever talked to online. When I first started a blog I sent her some clothes and she wore them on her blog without me ever even asking or bugging her about doing so. She totally rocks.

Okay I'm off to cook some salmon for dinner ( although I am thinking of stopping eating fish but it's really hard when your hubby LOVES eating meat, so fish and eggs have kind of become our middle ground) and think about what topics I should write about on this here little blog of mine. Also if you ever want to read about or see a video on any specific topics just leave a comment or send me an email. =D

Love and Peace,

Kelsey

P.S. This is her husband, Ben. I ended up cooking that salmon, so don't let her fool you. Additionally, she stole that Mallrats shirt from me. I write this as I finish proofreading her post.
